Four generations
at the same Perth bench.

WTG Henderson has made and mended jewellery in Perth since 1938. Scott Henderson runs the shop with his wife Catriona, and their son Matt, the fourth generation, works the bench downstairs. We design new pieces from scratch, remake the jewellery you no longer wear, and repair antique and heirloom work, almost all of it on-site at 5 North Methven Street.

THE WORKSHOP · DOWNSTAIRS

The work happens here, not in a post bag to somewhere else.

There is a workshop beneath the shop floor where the making and the mending get done. Scott and Matt work it together, a father teaching a son the way his own father taught him. Two jobs fill most days, making new pieces from scratch and bringing antique and heirloom jewellery back to life.

“Learning from Dad has been brilliant. He is a brilliant jeweller, some of the things he can create and fix are just amazing.” Matt Henderson, fourth generation

WHAT WE DO

Four trades, one bench, on North Methven Street.

Commission

Bespoke design and making

New pieces designed and made from scratch at our own bench beneath the shop. Bring a stone, a sketch or just an idea, and we work it up from there. The 6.60ct sapphire cluster and the double-halo diamond on this page both started as a conversation across the counter.

Remodel

Remaking what you no longer wear

A ring that no longer fits the life, a brooch nobody wears, good stones sitting in a drawer. We reset them into a single piece you will actually wear, made here in Perth rather than posted away to a trade workshop elsewhere.

Repair

Antique and heirloom repair

Ring resizing, re-tipping worn claws, rebuilding shanks, chain and clasp work, pearl restringing, watch repairs and batteries. Most of it is done on-site, so a sentimental piece never has to leave Perth and never goes in the post.

Counter

Rings, fine jewellery and watches

A counter range of diamond and coloured-stone engagement rings, fine jewellery and silver, antique jewellery and luxury watches. The same eye that makes the bespoke work chooses what goes in the window.

SINCE 1938 · THE FAMILY

From Jermyn Street to North Methven Street.

The family brought the business north from Jermyn Street in London in 1938. The first Perth shop dealt in oriental art, silver and jewellery, then militaria, coins and stamps, before it settled into the jeweller and silversmith it is today. The names over the door have changed, the address and the family have not.

Customers still tell us their parents and grandparents came to us. That is the part Matt is proudest of, the fourth generation keeping the bench his great-grandfather started.

  1. 1938 The family brings the business to Perth from Jermyn Street in London. The first premises deals in oriental art, silver and jewellery.
  2. Post-war The shop moves on through militaria, coins and stamps, then settles on what it does best, jewellery and silver.
  3. Second and third generations Grandfather, then father, keep the business on North Methven Street and build the workshop downstairs.
  4. Today Scott Henderson runs the shop with his wife Catriona. Son Matt, the fourth generation, is at the bench, trained by his dad and at college in Glasgow.

THE THING WE GET ASKED FOR MOST

Coloured stones, set so they sit just right.

Most of the bench’s named work is coloured-stone and cluster jewellery, the kind where getting the setting exactly level is half the job. It is also where a piece made by hand in Perth reads differently to something ordered in.

  • Halos and double halos. Each tiny surrounding stone is grain-set by hand so the halo reads as one bright ring, not a row of separate stones.
  • Fancy-cut three-stone work. An octagonal tanzanite between two trillion-cut diamonds is matched so the table heights sit level and the light carries across all three.
  • Heirloom repair kept in Perth. Re-tipping worn claws and rebuilding a thin shank is done on the bench downstairs, so a sentimental piece never goes in the post.
START SOMETHING

Tell us what you have in mind.

A short note to start the conversation, no obligation. The real work happens at the counter, once we can see the piece or the stones in person. Or just phone 01738 624836 and ask for Scott or Matt.

  • We reply by email, usually within a day or two.
  • Bring the piece, the stones, or a picture to the counter.
  • We talk it through before any work or cost is agreed.

Send an enquiry

A photo of the piece helps. You can email one to contact@jewellers-perth.co.uk after sending.

FIVE WE GET MOST

Quick answers, then bring it in.

Can you make a piece from scratch?

Yes, it is most of what we do. There is a workshop beneath the shop where new pieces are designed and made by hand. Bring in a stone, a picture or an idea, and we talk it through at the counter before any work or cost is agreed.

Can you use stones or gold I already have?

Yes. Inherited rings, old stones, a piece that broke years ago. We reset and remake them into something you will wear, here in Perth rather than sending them away. Bring them to 5 North Methven Street and we will talk through what is possible.

Do you repair antique and heirloom jewellery, and watches?

Yes. Resizing, re-tipping claws, rebuilding worn shanks, chain and clasp repair, pearl restringing, watch repairs and batteries. Most of it is done on the bench downstairs, so your piece stays with us in Perth and does not go in the post.

Are your engagement rings bespoke, or off the counter?

Both. There is a counter range to try on, and we make bespoke engagement rings to your own design. Many people start with something they have seen and then change the stone, the setting or the metal until it is theirs.

Where are you, and when are you open?

We are at 5 North Methven Street, a few minutes from the High Street and St John’s Kirk, with parking on the street. Open Monday to Saturday, 10:00 to 16:30, and closed on Sundays. Call 01738 624836 before travelling far and we will make sure the right person is in.
